Self – Care

Have you ever heard of the term “self-care”?

Counselors and pop-psychologists alike use it all the time. So Regina and Lisa thought it was time to share this little secret with the world!

On the couch, self-care refers to the ways that we help our clients to identify, prevent, and deal with the effects of stress in both the short and the long term.

Counselors also are very aware of their own need for self-care, as we can frequently be exposed to high levels of stress and trauma and need to take steps to prevent burnout and getting overwhelmed.

When counselors engage in good self-care (i.e., taking care of themselves) we are better able to help and serve our clients.

In this episode, Those Catholic Shrinks cover the basics of self-care…

…which is simply put, finding fun, enjoyable ways of helping you return to a healthy level of stress in your life.

We will help you learn to identify what are the causers or triggers of stress (especially things that may have slipped by your notice but keep you stressed and strained for long periods of time), and we give tips for developing your own custom self-care package.

When you can identify your stressors and have a tool kit for dealing with challenges, you will find it much easier to deal with both the big and little stressful events in life.

You’ll be able to tell if you’re headed on the path toward either stress or relaxation before you even get there!
